翟理斯的英译本中几乎所有单独出现的“天”，都被翻译成“God”。这与他整个译本采取的翻译策略相关。他的译本采用了“归化”的翻译方法，体现在以下几点：一、在词的处理上，如果英语中有“对等词”，则用英文的“对等词”代替，而不保留源语文化的特征。例如：他把“鲲”翻译成《圣经》中出现的“Leviathan”，“五谷”翻译成“fruit of the earth”。二、在句子的处理上，他采用了“意译”的方法，翻译非常自由，并不严格模仿原句的表达方式。三、即使在段落后面他对原文的解释中，也经常引用西方名人名言加以印证。例如：在《逍遥游》最后一段描述狸“东西跳梁”时，翟理斯引用布朗宁的话“The tiger-cat screams now，that whined before，that pried and tried and trod so gingerly，till in its stillness the trap-teeth join”。
